The Four Product Life Stages

Step 1: Extraction

Resources are extracted around the world and are transported to manufacturing facilities where they are used to make products.

Step 2: Manufacturing

Products are built in a manufacturing facility and are usually shipped to a store.

Step 3: Use

We use the products during their life span until they no longer work and we discard them.

Step 4: Waste

Sustainable products are discarded into recycling bins and are put back into the system to become future products, while other products are discarded to a landfill.

Sustainable Products = Small LCCA

A product's life cycle cost is the environmental cost it has in each stage of it's life.

The smaller the life cycle cost, the less environmental costs in it's four stages, the more sustainable the product.
